I had great intentions for this blog to be a gluttonous glorification of my addiction to food, highlighting all my favorite eats in and around town. With great aspirations, came poor execution. In my attempt to atone for not communicating my food obsessions, here’s the first food rave:
PHO: My cravings for pho and ability to consume large quantities of rice noodle will never fade….this love affair started in Houston, Texas, but is in its fervor here in Minneapolis, MN. The cold weather drives a need and hunger for Pho like no man has ever known. And the best place to get it in Minneapolis is Quang’s on Nicollet.
Quang’s is an old favorite of mine, a great standby that never fails. It’s like the chick you dumped because you thought you could do better, but in the end you realize all you ever wanted was her. That’s Quang’s. If only I could take back every mediocre meal I ever had and replace it with a bowl of Pho from Quang’s….my life would be so much better. Not only is the pho good at Quang’s, all their Vietnamese food is delicious. The rice dishes=yum. The weekend special congee=YUM. The spring rolls and Viet eggrolls (the tiny fried ones)=Yummmm. And let’s not forget Thai tea and Vietnamese iced coffee (where you get half a cup of condensed milk to mix with uber strong Cafe du Monde)….can you say YUM?! It’s 10:35 pm now and I’m craving pho like mad just thinking about it.
It’s too late for me to get pho now, but it’s definitely on my mind now. Don’t let this happen to you…the worst is having pho on your mind and not being in any close proximity to good pho (suburb pho is not quite the same, they put the hoisin and sriracha in ceramic sauce cups instead of the plastic squeeze bottles. Whaaaaaaat?! Yeah it’s whack!) I’m going in for a pho fix this weekend mos def.
